About Us
Message from our President
Welcome to the APA Division 38 (Health Psychology) web site!
A website is only as good as those who use it, contribute to it, or provide additional information for it. The purpose of our website is to serve as a resource for all who have an interest in the field: students, educators, researchers, clinicians, and patients and their families.
For students at all levels, you can find information about what you need to learn to be a health psychologist. For educators, there are references to materials and organizations that can help keep you up-to-date on existing and emerging competencies. For researchers, discussions of cross-cutting issues and concerns that need to be addressed in future investigations can be found here. For clinicians, these same cross-cutting issues and the competencies needed to successfully function as a clinical health psychologist are covered. Finally, for health consumers and their families, introduction to basic health psychology concepts, investigators, and topics, as well as information about recent findings, new directions, and evidence-based interventions are provided.
The field of health psychology is very broad, and continues to grow every day. Should you find some aspect missing, poorly addressed, or even omitted, please do not hesitate to contact us and provide us with your feedback and opinions (apadiv38@verizon.net). Similarly, because of the vast literature that is health psychology, remaining current - and keeping our content current - requires the dedication and hard work of many individuals.
Please consider becoming active in Division 38. If you are a student, this could become your future professional home; if you are an Early Career Professional, this could be the group that facilitates your professional development. And if you are a more experienced clinician or researcher, Division 38 could be the place through which you become a Fellow of APA or begin your work to become board certified.
I look forward to an exciting year, where we will continue to see the degree to which health becomes increasingly integral to the future of psychology.
