Health Psychology

Health Psychology is a scholarly journal, published by the American Psychological Association (APA) , that disseminates scientific investigations examining psychological/behavioral and physical health/illness relationships. Published six times a year, Health Psychology includes empirical research and reviews on a wide variety of basic and applied aspects of health and behavior. Special issues and mini-series in the journal address topics at the cutting edge of health psychology. Health Psychology is one of the most widely subscriped APA journals. The Health Psychologist

Division 38's Newsletter
The Health Psychologist is the Division's Newsletter. Published three times a year, this publication provides a forum for news, information, and discussions relevant to clinical service, research and training. The Health Psychologist also includes regular contributions from the Division's special interest groups, covering topic areas such as Women and Health, Aging, Sexuality and Health, and Sleep Research and Practice. Division 38 members automatically receive the newsletter.

Education and Training Publications

  • What is a Health Psychologist?
    The Division 38 Committee on Education and Training has prepared a brochure explaining what Health Psychology is, and describing the types of employment Health Psychologists typically find. The text of the brochure is available online here.

  • Teaching Undergraduate Health Psychology
    A guide for teaching health psychology at the undergraduate level. The booklet is designed to facilitate instructors' efforts to introduce undergraduate courses in health psychology at their colleges and to provide information to help instructors enrich students' educational experiences in courses that focus on biopsychosocial connections between health and psychology (from the Committee on Education & Training).

APA Books

  • Book Series
    Division 38 publishes a book series designed to acquaint the clinician with the most current scientific knowledge in a comprehensive, well-organized format, addressing issues relevant to clinical practice. Books published to date focus on psychophysiological disorders and management of chronic illness. Topics of other volumes in progress include sleep, minority adolescent health promotion, HIV, and aging. Division members receive a discount on all book series purchases.
